Which CPR classes are better, the ones from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association?
Q. I'm a nursing student and I need CPR certification. I don't know which classes are better, the ones from the Red Cross or the ones from the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association seems to be cheaper, but I don't know if they provide the textbooks or if you have to buy them, b/c it says it's only $35.00, and the red cross classes are like $60.00. I would appreciate your help in this regard. thanks!

A. It all depends on the area or potential employer. The big 3 AHA, American Red Cross and the American Safety and Health Institute all use the same set of standards which are developed jointly. The standards are set by the ECC or Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee. On this committee all 3 organizations are represented. But to answer your question, in general AHA is the most widely recognized and accepted by Health care facilities.

Should I have my friends & family donate money to The American Heart Association or Autism Speaks for my bday?
Q. Instead of asking for gifts, I'm asking my friends and family to donate to a charity for my birthday. Which one should I choose and why? My reasons for narrowing the charities down to these two: My father died of a heart attack and my brother has (non-severe) autism.

A. You don't need to choose. Let them know either one is a great present for you. My pet charity is Make-A-Wish Foundation.

American Heart Association and American Red Cross in regards to CPR?
Q. Have First Aid and CPR training from the Red Cross. Never knew that AHA had training as well. There is one down the road, and will have to renew my CPR for the year soon. Was thinking of taking the class. Is there a difference between the courses? Is one more widely accepted than the other? Thanks for the feedback.

A. They are teaching the same courses. If you can always take a class online to save the time and money from having to seek out a Red Cross or AHA class. There are several good online courses. I used National CPR Certification. It seems rather straight forward. Just make sure you use a Nationally recognized class.

Would getting an American Heart Association BLS the same thing as CPR for Health Care Providers certificate?
Q. The BLS is also for health care providers...I'm kind of confused as to what the difference is. The class I'm in only says to get a CPR for Health Professionals class but I can't find anything with that title so I'm thinking they meant a BLS, possibly.
Asked by Bats - Tue Jun 2 14:50:25 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. AHA BLS and Healthcare provider is the same thing. The healthcare provider course is a BLS (Basic Life Support) skill. So the class you are taking is a BLS course. Its just that AHA call it healthcare professional. No difference, it is one course.

A. Neither American Heart Association nor the American Red Cross offers on-line only options. The American Red Cross DOES offer something called 'Blended Learning' which is taken mostly on-line then you show up in person to demonstrate/practice the hands-on skills. You can also try to renew via the Red Cross, even if the original card was AHA. In most places, they offer more and more accessible reviews.

Does anyone know about the 3 day american heart association diet?
Q. Does the diet work or do you just gain all your weight back??
Asked by jholley8384 - Wed Mar 5 12:16:44 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I know some people who have used it, and it is effective for losing weight, and the lose can be maintained as long as the days you are off the diet, or when you are done, you maintain a reasonable healthly diet. But for the 3 days you are on it you are pretty hungry. That is why it is 3 days on 4 days off. Good luck.

A. AHA website has a calander, or you can check with any of the hospitals in the area. There will be someone in the office of the director of nursing who will know. As a last resort, call the AHA directly.

A. The American Heart Assoication is a non-profit front organization for Big Pharma. They claim to need money for research on cardio-vascular diseases, but heart diease continues to be the Number One killer disease. Why is that? Could it be that there very little money in natural products that cannot be patented?

A. Is that the diet that they tell you exactly what to eat because that combination of food speeds up your metabolism? If so, I've never tried it personally, but one of my friends did and she said she lost seven pounds. So I guess it's worth a shot! Seven pounds is better than nothing. =] Good luck. =]

Asked by SelenaGomez&&DemiLovato - Sun Aug 24 18:34:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The only way I can lose weight is to always be hungry and just get the mindset that if I'm hungry it means what I really want to happen is happening. You gotta eat the food you know you need to eat to stay healthy...and in very small portions. I work a physical job so exercise isn't a factor, but if you have a sedentary job you really should get your heart-rate up everyday.

A. virtually addictive. How do you think McDonald's has stayed in business so many years. It is also like the 'free nuts' and even buffets at the bars at happy hour, to get you to eat and drink more. People also tend not to read food labels, or be aware of the link between sodium/salt, high blood pressure, and stroke. Even if they do read the food labels, they can be misleading. The SERVING size can trick us, so for example, there is one small pizza on the market that looks like it might be a single serving, but in actual fact is THREE. A large can of tomatoes for pasta sauce, for example, is 14! so if you gave that to your family of 4 one night and you ate the whole thing, just think how much salt they would be consuming. So everyone… [cont.]

A. The normal range for adults is 60-100 beats per minute, but there are circumstances where that changes. Athletes may have resting heart rates in the 40's and that's normal for them.
