Health disparities (also called healthcare inequality in some countries) refer to gaps in the quality of health and health care across racial, ethnic, sexual orientation and socioeconomic groups. The Health Resources and Services Administration defines health disparities as "population-specific differences in the presence of disease, health outcomes, or access to health care."

In the United States, health disparities are well documented in minority populations such as African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, and Latinos. When compared to whites, these minority groups have higher incidence of chronic diseases, higher mortality, and poorer health outcomes. Among the disease-specific examples of racial and ethnic disparities in the United States is the cancer incidence rate among African Americans, which is 10% higher than among whites. In addition, adult African Americans and Latinos have approximately twice the risk as whites of developing diabetes. Minorities also have higher rates of cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, and infant mortality than whites. (See also: Health care in the United States.)

Health disparities are evident in the developing world, where he importance of equitable access to healthcare has been citedas crucial to achieving many of the Millennium Development Goals.

I plan on writing a paper on Health Disparities on a rural region in Georgia where my university is located.?
Q. However, I'm not sure exactly where to start or how to start. Should I have a subtitle in addition? I'm not sure which part of health disparities to focus on. But I want it to be good. Any suggestions?

A. Race is irrelevant. But country of origin -- due to its regulatory standards and cultural practices, which might promote sanitation and good health or might not, climatic differences which affect health issues, etc. -- matters a great deal.

Since the US has the 37th best healthcare in the world, why try to change it?
Q. Right now, we are right between Costa Rica and Cuba in health care. Colombia, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia all have better health care than we do. This estimate is based on 5 factors: 1) overall level of population health 2) health inequalities (or disparities) within the population 3) overall level of health system responsiveness (a combination of patient satisfaction and how well the system acts) 4) distribution of responsiveness within the population (how well people of varying economic status find that they are served by the health system) 5) and the distribution of the health system s financial burden within the population (who pays the costs). It is also good to note that the US has a very low life expectancy, and a huge infant… [cont.]
